Fife Childcare & Early Years Strategy is part of a national agenda to improve childcare provision to allow parents to access to employment, training and education.

In 1998 the Scottish Office published "Meeting the Childcare Challenge: A Childcare Strategy for Scotland".

The overall aim of the Childcare Strategy was to ensure high quality, affordable childcare was available across the country. This gave recognition to the necessity of childcare for enabling parents to participate in the workforce, while acknowledging the benefit of high qulaity care to meet then needs of the children.

One of the commitments within the document was that each of Scotland's local authorities would convene a Childcare Partnership made up of key stakeholders; signalling a new approach to childcare delivery.

The role of the Childcare & Early Years Partnerships is to highlight local need and develop plans and proposals in order to meet this need; including securing the commitment and resources to meet their objectives.

Fife Childcare and Early Years Partnership acts as the advisory body for Fife Council. The Childcare and Early Years Strategy Team, which is part of the Community Learning and Development (CLD) section of Community Services, is responsible for driving the childcare agenda.
